Iran will look to defend their title at the 2015 FIBA Asia Championships in Changsha, China, this coming September, but don’t count out their competition as countries like China, Philippines, South Korea, and Japan have all made tremendous progress developing their national teams.
You might be confused as to why Japan is mentioned in a FIBA tournament article, but don’t worry, so are we. Japan is still banned from all FIBA activities, well, kind of. The ban has been partially lifted, and while nobody knows exactly what that means, FIBA was kind enough to include them in the official draw. In August, FIBA will hold a meeting in Tokyo that will eventually come to its final decision on the future of Japan’s ban from FIBA and will also announce the host country for the 2019 FIBA World Cup.
