The Basketball Japan League (JB-League) revoked The Japan Times from their media access for the 2013-2014 season.

A letter to The Japan Times from league commissioner Toshimitsu Kawachi and league president Hidemitsu Nakano stated The Japan Times will not be granted season credentials or single-game passes due to a dispute over an article by beat writer Ed Odeven.

Odeven is the official JB-League beat writer for The Japan Times who have been covering league news since its birth in 2005.

On July 12, 2013, Odeven broke a story about a BJ-League team’s plans to fold from the League. A source very close to The Japan Times revealed that the Kyoto Hannaryz will stay only one more year in the BJ-league allegedly switching over the new and improved National Basketball League (formerly known as Japan Basketball League).

In the past three seasons, three different clubs have either folded or switched over the NBL.

The Japan Times plans to continue covering the BJ-League throughout the year.
