Korea wins ticket to 2014 FIBA World Cup

This year marked the 27th FIBA Asia tournament. Out of those 27 tournaments, Korea has stood on the podium 22 times.

Make that 23 times after a 75-57 victory over Chinese Taipei.

Korea’s young gun Mingoo Kim was lights out from the floor. The shooting guard shot 57 per cent from the floor and finished with a game high 21 points helping Korea snatch the final qualifying spot for the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain.

For Chinese Taipei, there is happy ending to this tale. After upsetting China in the quarter finals, Taipei lost to Iran in the semi finals by 19 points and now to Korea by 18 points. Although the two straight losses in the elimination round, Taipei made a statement during the tournament. The cinderella team with a bright future.

Cheng-ju Lu was the top scorer for Taipei with 13 points.
